  • 2014 California STEM Symposium, San Diego

Written by Alyssa Burley.

Project Cornerstone’s Crystal Howard and Alyssa Burley spent two days at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Symposium at the San Diego Convention Center on September 22 & 23, 2014.

The 2nd Annual California STEM Symposium was presented by the Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation (CDEF), in cooperation with State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.

The goal of the symposium was to “bring together 3000 teachers, administrators, students, higher education representatives, program providers, philanthropic representatives and industry representatives to engage them in STEM education by providing strategies and resources for program implementation,” according to the CDEF website.

Project Cornerstone members Hanson Aggregates and Robertson’s Ready Mix sponsored the Project Cornerstone booth.  As a result of Project Cornerstone’s presence at the symposium, 61 people requested more information about the hands-on program we offer.  They felt learning about where construction aggregates are located locally and how they are used to build infrastructure was important and would meet their current curriculum needs and the newly adopted Next Generation Science Standards.
