San Diego construction aggregate producer, Superior Ready Mix was seen unloading railroad ballast for the double tracking of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Corridor rail line.
Double tracking the LOSSAN corridor is a key activity to ensure the efficient movement of people and goods by rail. Building an additional track will allow additional rail cars to be used to transport people and cargo resulting in additional environmental benefits to our region.
The rail system plays a critical role in the movement of people and goods in the San Diego region, as well as between San Diego, Los Angeles, and points further north.
NCTD’s COASTER commuter rail service, Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner inter-city service, and the BNSF Railway freight service all rely upon the tracks to serve their customers.
The LOSSAN corridor is the second busiest intercity rail corridor in the nation supporting commuter, intercity and freight rail services, according to TransNet.
